Maintenance mode

What holding your weight steady means in metrIQ, and how the band around your goal works.

Once you've reached a goal, the job changes from moving your weight to holding it — and metrIQ treats that as its own kind of plan, not only "the diet, but with more food."

A band, not a number

Holding a weight isn't a single figure you either hit or miss. metrIQ sets a band around your goal weight instead — a range that scales with your size, so a swing means roughly the same thing whether your goal weight is 60 kg (about 132 lb) or 110 kg (about 243 lb). As long as you're inside that range, you're holding.

Centred on your trend

The band is centred on your weight trend, not on whatever your scale said this morning. Day-to-day weight moves with water, salt and sleep well before it moves with anything real, so judging "holding steady" against one reading would be noisy and unfair — a single heavy morning could make it look like you'd drifted when you hadn't. The trend — a line fitted through your recent weigh-ins — is what actually gets compared to the band, and it's what decides whether you're holding, drifting up, or drifting down.

Switching into maintenance

The most common way in is automatic: once your weight trend reaches your goal, metrIQ offers to switch your plan over — one tap sets your target to what you burn and centres the band on where your trend actually is, not on whatever the scale showed that day. You don't lose your history when this happens; it's a new chapter of the same plan, not a new plan.

You can also choose to hold steady without a weight-loss or weight-gain goal at all — picking "Hold" as your plan's direction sets the band around your current weight from the start, for anyone who isn't trying to move the number at all.

Switching out

Maintenance isn't a one-way door. If you decide you want to lose or gain again — a new goal, a different season of life — open your plan and set a new goal weight, and your plan switches back to a deficit or surplus around it. It stays the same plan: your logged history, your streaks and everything you've already earned come with you, and the new stretch is measured from where you are now rather than from where you started months ago. You can also just tell Sophia, and she'll show you the change as a card before anything moves.
